Chelsea ready to break premier league transfer record

Chelsea appear prepared to break the Premier League’s transfer record as they look to re-sign former player Romelu Lukaku.

The Blues are readying a third bid which will be ‘in excess of £100million’. It would eclipse what Manchester City are understood to be paying Aston Villa for Jack Grealish.

It’s understood Lukaku feels he has unfinished business at Stamford Bridge

The Belgian striker hasn’t been hankering for a move away from current club Inter Milan, having played the best football of his career there.

But it’s understood the 28-year-old feels he has unfinished business at the club he failed to establish himself at as a youngster.

talkSPORT’s transfer expert Alex Crook adds that the European champions want to get the deal done before their Super Cup final date with Villarreal on Wednesday.

“This one has really gathered pace over the last couple of days, and I don’t think Jack Grealish will be the record Premier League signing for too much longer,” Crook told the talkSPORT Breakfast show.

“Chelsea are readying a third bid in excess of the £100m Man City are paying for Grealish, and they’ve been given encouraging nods – shall we say – from the Lukaku camp that he is really keen now to return to the club he left seven years ago.

“That wasn’t necessarily the case at the start of the summer, he certainly wasn’t looking for a move away from Inter Milan. He loves it in Italy, he’s adored by the fans out there, but I think he feels he’s got unfinished business at Stamford Bridge.

“They’re trying to get this deal done before the UEFA Super Cup final against Villarreal next week, so I’m expecting movement on this within the next 48 hours or so.”

Tuchel was asked about Lukaku after Chelsea’s 2-2 draw to Tottenham in a pre-season friendly at Stamford Bridge

Thomas Tuchel didn’t give anything away when questions about Lukaku to Chelsea were put to him, although was full of praise for the former Blues star.

He told talkSPORT: “I don’t want to talk about players who don’t play in my squad. Romelu Lukaku is a fantastic player but is a player for Inter so out of respect I won’t talk about him in this situation.

“Everyone wants to [play for Chelsea]! A lot of players want to come and join as you can imagine but like I say I don’t want to comment on that.”

Signing Lukaku would make Chelsea a frightening prospect and many would back them to challenge Manchester City for the Premier League title this season.

Former Blues player Scott Minto claims getting Lukaku is a must, with City set to sign Grealish and possibly Harry Kane too this summer.

Lukaku has 64 goals in 95 appearances for Inter and would bring the composure in front of goal Chelsea lacked last term

Minto said: “Chelsea will do it and they have to do it, they need to do it because I genuinely believe City will get Kane.

“Not yet, in a couple of weeks time, probably after they play each other. But I believe they’ll get that.

“If they get Kane and Grealish then it’s an absolute must that Chelsea get Lukaku.”

It’s back and just in time for the new Premier League season, which begins on 13 August with Brentford hosting Arsenal on Friday night
