Roma eyeing move for Chelsea midfielder

Ruben Loftus-Cheek has, of course, endured a rough couple of seasons, largely due to injuries and a lack of regular football at Chelsea.

After returning from a loan spell at Crystal Palace in 2018, though, things did appear to be looking up for the midfielder.

Maurizio Sarri was at the helm at Stamford Bridge at the time, and the Italian handed RLC plenty of game-time, especially in Europe.

However, towards the back end of the term, Loftus-Cheek suffered yet another injury, which subsequently ruled him out for not only the remainder of that campaign, but most of 2019/20, too.

Then, after appearing in a solitary league game at the start of this past season, under Frank Lampard, the midfielder was shipped off on loan to Fulham.

Loftus-Cheek would go on to score one goal in 31 outings for the now-Championship outfit.

Roma eye Loftus-Cheek

Loftus-Cheek would then return over the summer and was handed the odd chance to impress Thomas Tuchel in pre-season.

However, now the campaign has started, we are yet to see the midfielder make a competitive start under the German.

And, with the summer window having around a week left to run, Loftus-Cheek is being linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge.

The club said to be interested in his services are AS Roma, home to former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho and former Chelsea striker, Tammy Abraham who departed Stamford Bridge earlier this month.

Roma’s links to RLC stem from Corriere dello Sport, who suggest that Roma would like to take the Englishman on an initial loan, with an option to buy of 16 million euros.

Whilst the 25-year-old is contracted to Chelsea until 2024, it is hard to see him earning any sort of regular football at the Bridge this year. So, whilst 16 million euros may not be that high, it is probably the best Chelsea are going to get for an injury-prone star who has not had a great season for a while now.
